2010 Fourth Quarter
The stock market experienced one of its best fourth quarters on record in 2010. The total return (price change plus dividend income) for the S&P 500 increased 10.8% for the fourth quarter and 15.1 % for all of 2010. Midcap and small-cap stocks rose even more. The US equity market returns for 2010 reflected an improved economic environment, rising earnings/dividend expectations, improved company balance sheets and attractive equity valuations.
